Ron Werner, our resident TD on the Spirit Ridge course is proud to announce that Spirit Ridge may be a new course but it has made it onto the World Wide Web. The course is now listed in the Disc Golf Course Review!

We are currently in the planning stages of a new two day tournament to be held in Ukiah in September and are trying to gauge interest.

The Steve Werner Memorial is a PDGA sanctioned “C” tier tournament designed
to introduce the novice or recreational player to disc golf as a tournament
sport. We encourage participation by offering the tournament experience
with lower entry fees, an experimental rating structure and a one day format.
The experimental format groups players in only three classifications: A Pool,
for the Pro or very experienced tournament player, B Pool, for the amateur
player who has been playing for while and is familiar
with tournament play, and C Pool, the player who is new to the sport of disc
golf or who has never before been involved in a tournament. A quarter of
our field this year was comprised of the “C” Pool player, and half of
those have stated that they may be entering a more advanced tournament this year.
We consider that a great success.

In conjunction with the tournament held at the Steve Werner Memorial Disc Golf Course at Crane Creek, here in Sonoma County, a Sunday tournament is held by Steve’s brother, Ron Werner at Spirit Ridge, our Carnation, Washington chapter.

The Steve Werner Memorial will be held at Crane Creek on March 12th, 2011. The flyer is available in our download section (see top menu) or you can check out our list of tournaments in the side menu. The field for this one is limited so sign up early! Cash payout for all pools. We are going to have a great time, y’all come! This is a sanctioned Tier C event.

It is my pleasure to report this year’s Mach 1 Tournament a great success despite the low turnout. Fourty-nine enthusiastic players (13 Open, 36 Ams) came together for two days of disc golf insanity, during which Dave Madruga (Open) set a new course record of 57. Way to go, Dave! No aces to report. This was not terribly surprising considering the length of some of the holes.
